Una Slow Way of Life come attitudine alla ricerca, lenta, meditata, appassionata, personale, ma senza personal shopper o Guida Michelin.

What we aren’t, what we don’t want

If you are looking for “Gangnam Style” lifestyle trends – biting social satire by PSY on new rampant – then you are in the wrong place. In this blog we cultivate, search, disseminates and share Style (trying to scoop up and pick up about it too). I wrote it deliberately with a capital letter because it is too overused word, until the violence sometimes. Here we speak of a style that is not conformism, is not exhibitionism, is not ostentation; is not necessarily “chic” or “glamour” or “fashion” or “in”…; a style that is not necessarily fashion, Vogue, Gambero Rosso, Touring Club; it can be anonymous but personal, then intimate and unique; not necessarily elitist because of “high-end” or “luxury”; rather elitist because understated elegance, authentic flavor, pleasant to touch, explosion to the mouth. A style that is not a trend, rather it can set one.
The most beautiful definition that makes a good idea about style we are talking about, it was told by one that knows a bit about it, Giorgio Armani:

“It’s a matter of elegance, not only aesthetics. The Style is to have the courage of your choices and the courage to say no; is find the novelty and invention without chasing extravagance. It’s good taste and culture. The style is something individual, unique, recognizable. Always fashionable because it exceeds the fashion but of which, in a sense, it needs, if only to confront. Style means to build a wardrobe, not to replace it every season but integrating it, choosing what is most coherent with your own taste, mixing vintages. Because the style is transverse, it goes through the time and does not know what to do with the imperative of the all-new, always new.”
And said by the man who created an empire of fashion and design and whose brand is joined as original character in the families of typographic fonts …

This personal way of life fits perfectly not only clothes but also food, wine, drink, places, and everything that is leisure, pleasure and beauty. Yes, because the Beauty, as Oscar Wilde loved to repeat, “is the only thing against which the power of time in vain, what is beautiful is a joy for all seasons and a possession for all eternity”.

The style that we are looking for, in conclusion, it can be find into the taste of genuine things – like a good pasta with fresh tomato sauce made in a workmanlike manner – beyond starred chefs, brands, spotlights and sequins. That kind of things that you can find, for example – but unfortunately fewer and fewer – behind the damper of a historical shop in downtown. Not old, but historical, experienced, authentic; vintage, as it is nowadays fashionable to say. Or in the little restaurant that is off the traditional tourists routes and where you usually don’t go just to show off. How many of them shot down every year in our cities? Replaced more and more by the neon signs of fast food or fast fashion brands; though, have to admitt, sometimes you can have surprised in this store too. Because it isn’t always and only what is expensive that makes Style and Gusto.

Gustostyle, therefore, not “lifestyle”. A Slow Way of Life as research skills, slow, thoughtful, passionate, personal, but without personal shopper or Michelin Guide. How many of you, as me, likes being stylist or curious foodie? Outside the usual rounds jocks or elitist or snobby or radical. Maybe a little dandy, but without the excesses of dandyism.

Some characters, no coincidence, have become examples and icons of style and not only due to the fame. Steve McQueen, Audrey Hepburn, Jacqueline Kennedy, Grace Kelly, Gianni Agnelli, Cary Grant, Gore Vidal, just to name a few, what did they have in common over the success? They were nobody’ mannequin. They were themselves, with their own taste expressed with a unique style of their own.

Then, let’s start this journey together, with an eye toward tradition, culture – our guide – and the other addressed to the roads waiting to be discovered, to the new paths of taste to explore; made of ideas, visions, research, innovation, which become sharing. I draw inspiration from Eugenio Montale words: “Do not ask me for formulas that can open up worlds, yes a few gnarled syllables and dry as a branch. Only this is what we can tell you today, that which we aren’t, that which we don’t want”. So, have a good journey!

PS “Gugsto” comes from a game, by the composition of “Gug,” the first syllable of my name (Guglielmo), and “Gusto” (taste). I enjoyed the similarity between the two so I decided to give a very personal touch to the blog name. Places, food, clothing, accessories, little big things of everyday life will be the protagonists. But strictly with Style.
