“Life is just a cocktail party” cantava nel 1978 Mick Jagger.

Life’s a cocktail, today as in the 30s

“Life is just a cocktail party” Mick Jagger sang in 1978. It was true then and is true today as in the 30s.

“We are at number 19 of the street, hidden in the back of a bar called Cafe 30”, reads the concise presentation of the Facebook page that keeps the aura of mystery that surrounds the Club 1930. Few other information explains only why the name of this club from another era, almost a riddle: “the tram 19 carries in Porta Genova, the tram 30 takes you to 1930, we open at 19:30, 1 +9 +3 +0 is equal to 13, the day of opening of all places”…

I had the fortune and honor to find out this local thanks to the bartender Flavio Angiolillo, a true Lord that devoted me special attention and a rare care. The Club is inspired by the 30s’ prohibition, the Speakeasy at that time, so it is hidden and secret. It is accessed by a door of a chinese fast food that is not at all inviting. After the secret door, as if by magic, you enter into a real living room adorned with antiques and comfortable armchairs.

The welcome and service have nothing to envy to those of the bars of the big hotels. Downstairs there is also space reserved for smokers and you can taste cigars offered in tasting with premium distillates.

Soft music, languid lights and an ambience for a few close friends are the ideal setting for a relaxing evening to spend conversing and enjoying excellent drinks. The proposals of the menu are all original reinterpretations of cocktails that have made the history of mixing. The booklet is updated periodically with the history of the local and dishes of small kitchen (also very delicious and cared for). To log in, though, you have to book. Where? From the website, that reflects the mystery of the local: “SH” is precisely “shhhh” (silence).

Now that you have clicked on the link, you have also seen that this is not a normal site with the photogallery and the “contact” section … is the site of a chinese fast food in chinese! How can you come out? Try to follow the instructions in this video and if you are careful enough and insightful you can find the solution!

To get there, someone counsel to go to MAG Cafè at Ripa di Porta Ticinese 43 and ask to be invited … even in this case access to the secret door in Club 1930 is not guaranteed. But believe me, it’s worth it.
